Nurturing the Nurturers
BreatheWell Collective’s Nurturing the Nurturers is a dedicated wellness and community care initiative created to support BIPOC doulas, birthworkers, and reproductive justice advocates—those who offer care, presence, and grounding at life’s most sacred thresholds. These individuals are often the first to respond and the last to rest, holding space through joy, grief, labor, and recovery. Yet, despite their essential role, they are frequently under-supported, underpaid, and emotionally overextended. This program was born from the recognition that those who care for others need and deserve consistent, culturally grounded care themselves.
The initiative offers space for birthworkers to reconnect with their well-being through mindfulness practices, restorative gatherings, and healing-centered experiences. It is a response to the isolation, burnout, and systemic pressures that many in the reproductive care space silently endure. Through trauma-informed approaches and collective support, Nurturing the Nurturers aims to replenish the emotional and spiritual reserves of these practitioners—creating room for breath, reflection, and realignment with purpose.
In addition to individual healing, this work is about building deeper community within birthworker networks. We are intentionally holding space for care around them—supporting not only their professional labor, but their lives, relationships, and capacity to sustain this sacred work in the long term.
More than a wellness offering, this program is an act of reverence. It honors the legacy and labor of those who guide new life into the world, who advocate for birthing people’s rights, and who continue ancestral traditions of care. By supporting the inner lives of BIPOC birthworkers, we strengthen the foundation of reproductive justice itself. Their healing matters—not just for their sake, but for the future of all the lives they touch.
